the sponsored swim - 11th May 2003
Thankfully, we both completed our targets without drowning; Les swam 5000 metres
(200 lengths) in 2 hours 1 minute and 34 seconds, Bonce swam 2500 metres (100
lengths) in 1 hour 49 minutes and 25 seconds.
 |
 |
Bonce demonstrates his slow but sure
old-lady-keeping-her-hair-dry technique |
Whilst Les pushes on with a front crawl |
We are happy to report that we were able to complete the swim without the aid
of floatation devices, diving apparatus or canoes... unlike the people who were
using the rest of the pool for a relay sponsored swim and swimming with fins
on their feet!

Bonce and Les celebrated reaching the half way point with
a quick synchronised swimming demonstration,
performed to Ravel's Bolero |

Despite drinking half the pool,
Bonce found it to be thirsty work
and needed three toilet breaks! |
|
|
Bonce had problems with foot cramp between lengths 25 and 30 but thankfully
a break sorted it out. Les had problems with a headache around the same time
but this was solved by loosening her goggles which were "cutting off the circulation
to my head"!
Unfortunately, Jo wasn't well enough to come and cheer us on, but her boyfriend
made it in time to cheer us on as we finished.

Exhausted but happy - finished! |
In case you're interested, our lap counters Kimbo and Lorna kept track of our
timings at the end of each ten lengths - here they are for your perusal:
